The Front Range Community College (FRCC) Continuing Education and Visual and Media Arts Programs, together with the Fort Collins Museum of Art (FCMOA), share in the vision and mission of promoting awareness and appreciation of the arts. We are partnering to offer the Fort Collins community and region the highest quality art experiences possible for all ages through classes, lectures, and workshops that assist in illuminating the exhibitions that FCMOA offers. This partnership underscores our mutual belief in the power of the arts to foster life-long learning, social interaction, personal inquiry, and the affirmation of the spirit.

Peter Beal Discusses the work of Chagall

This June the FRCC Community Studio introduces it's new addition of lectures in the Humanities.
We will meet Peter Beal, Lead Instructor of Humanities and Art History in the galleries of the FCMOA for an illuminating lecture on the work of Chagall and the influences of the time.

This is great opportunity to warm up for summer classes that Cindy will be teaching in July! You will be exploring the use of acrylic paint and a variety of approaches. Plant, animal, landscape and your imagination are all possibilities. A trip to the new exciting FCMOA exhibitions is included in the class for even more inspiration! Classes can be taken together or separately.

Stencil-based, Monotype Printmaking

In this workshop you will create several one-of-a-kind prints that can be framed and hung on your wall! We will first be making a stencil (complex or simple) that will be placed on an inked Plexiglas surface and run through the printing press. We will also explore painting on Plexiglas, which will then be printed. The beautiful Chagall print exhibition will be visited as part of this class to learn more about the process of printmaking. No experience necessary, just bring a smile and creativity!
Painting with a Twist

Instructor: Farrell Tompkins Preston
In this kids’ class, we will practice monotype printmaking. Students will create paintings on plexiglass and run them though a printing press to transfer the design onto paper. You will take home a one-of-a-kind monotype print. Please bring an old t-shirt to cover clothes as we will be using messy paints!
Draw Like a Printmaker!

In this class, kids will explore 2 different printmaking processes which rely heavily on drawing. We will incise lines into soft sintra plastic and print them relief-style. We will also experiment with a direct-draw, transfer process. Kids will have several prints to take home. Please bring an old t-shirt to cover clothes as we will be using oil-based inks!

Portraits from Life! In these classes you will be taught ways to draw the human face accurately and to capture a true likeness of the person. The first week we will learn facial proportions and draw in graphite pencil. The second week we will learn to shade and create three-dimensional drawings using black charcoal. The third week we will learn about color theory and create a life-like color portrait in soft pastels. No photos will be used in this class. Come alone or sign up with a friend or adult family member so that you can draw from each other! This three-week sequential course is designed for both beginning and advanced drawers. Take one class or all three. Truly, no experience necessary.
Photography through a Pin Hole?

Spend an exciting afternoon learning about what really makes a photograph happen! We will be making our own pinhole cameras and take photos with them. We will explore light and dark and experiment with ideas about what is in the photo we see as well as what is happening outside of the photo!
Intaglio Printmaking Inspired by Marc Chagall

Instructor: Farrell Tompkins Preston
Participants will explore Marc Chagall’s technique by creating black-and-white intaglio prints with hand-coloring. Students will etch a design into plexiglass, ink, wipe and print with a press. Finally we will add touches of bright color with water-based paints. Class includes a visit to the exhibit for exploration and inspiration. No previous experience is necessary. Bring a curious and creative spirit. Due to the use of very sharp tools, this class is offered for teens and adults. A trip to the Chagall exhibition will be included in this class session.
