Shapes and Chagall
Thursday, April 19th, 2012
The Shapes of Art exhibit is now underway, and we are very excited to host the Gala and Live Auction Saturday, April 28, at the Fort Collins Masonic Lodge. The closing reception for Shapes of Art is Friday, May 4, so be sure to get your bids in before then!
The Marc Chagall and the Bible: Etchings and Lithographs exhibit opens May 3 and goes through July 1 in the Mezzanine Gallery. It is one of the most monumental printing projects, and we are looking forward to bringing it to Fort Collins. The David Wander: Drawings from Biblical Texts will also be opening concurrent with the Chagall exhibit and will also close July 1. David creates a contemporary way to interpret the Bible through his illustrations.
A little later on in May the museum is bringing Liao Yibai's work in an exhibit called, Supersized Fakes and Coldwar Artifacts. This exhibit explores fake brands within Chinese culture, and opens on May 18 and will run through September 15. The Member Opening Reception for all three of these exciting exhibitions will be Friday, May 18th from 5-8pm. See you there!

Chihuly Glass Blowing Demonstrations
Friday, February 3rd, 2012
Nothing is more fascinating than watching an artist take a shapeless glob of molten glass and transform it into a work of art! Visitors to FCMOA's Chihuly Venetians show have the opportunity to watch Chihuly and his team blow a number of amazing works in the video Chihuly in the Hotshop that plays on a looped video.
But on select weekends, visitors are also able to see live glass blowing demonstrations by local glass artists Brad Wilson and Cary Hollenberg. Brad was with us several weeks ago and Cary will be demonstrating from 1-3 pm on February 18th in FCMOA's studio on the plaza level. Both artists will be doing demonstrations during FCMOA's Weekend of Fire on March 10 & 11.
Here's to art and living it!

Moving Forward!
Wednesday, November 9th, 2011
FCMOA renovations are fully underway at this point. Ceiling tiles being replaced, hardwood floors being reinstalled and refinished and walls being painted! At the same time we are preparing the galleries for our upcoming Chihuly Venetians exhibition that will open to the public December 14th. This is a must-see exhibition that folks of all ages and levels of knowledge about art can enjoy.
Also, look for my upcoming lecture series: "Impressionists Paint Winter." Those lectures will take place January 10, 17, and 24 at 7:00 PM here in the museum. Its will be fun, informative and we can see how Impressionists responded to winter scenes full of snow and ice. Call the museum to find out more!

We're on the road to building recovery!
Wednesday, October 12th, 2011
Last week we reported on the water damage we suffered due to the museum's aging infrastructure. But this week we can happily report that we have begun to put the broken pieces back together and we are good to go with our December 14th public opening of the Dale Chihuly exhibition. This will be a spectacular show!

Drying Out!
Thursday, September 29th, 2011
Its important for museum buildings to be well-maintained because they are essential for keeping the priceless cultural treasures they contain safe and secure. As this building approaches its 100 anniversary in 2012, it is more essential than ever for us to not only appreciate its beauty, but to remember that it needs regular care and feeding. Two days ago, we were reminded of how fragile this grand old lady of almost 100 is when two water coils failed raining water down upon our offices, galleries and public spaces. We've had to close the "Creating the New Century" show early to protect the art but we look forward now to getting the galleries dried out, cleaned up and ready to accept our Dale Chihuly Venetians show that opens in mid-December. We'll see everyone then!
Recent Comments: Friday, March 30th, 2012 : I'm with you Patsi-glass rocks in the garden. I like those two loetbts with their wire wrapping. Very creative!P.S. The tall white shrubs in my garden are 'Limelight' hydrangeas. They are of the paniculata type and one of the best. The group you saw is actually 3. There are 3 more on the other side of the path in another garden. 'Limelights' are easy to grow in some sun and moist well drained areas. Easy to root too so ask your neighbors for some cuttings soon. I'm sure they'd be happy to share-I know I do.
